How It Works
This calculator uses feeding standards from the American Sheep Industry Association and American Goat Federation. Requirements vary based on animal class, weight, and production stage.
Feed Requirements by Class
- Dry Animals: 2.5–3% of body weight in forage daily
- Lactating: 4–5% of body weight plus grain supplementation
- Kids/Lambs: 5–7% of body weight, increasing grain as they grow
- Meat Production: 3–4% of body weight with grain finishing
Daily Hay = Weight × % of Body Weight × Number of Animals
Daily Grain = (Weight × Grain Factor) × Number of Animals
Annual Hay (tons) = Monthly Hay × 12 ÷ 2000
Monthly Cost = (Monthly Hay ÷ 2000 × Hay Price) + (Monthly Grain ÷ 50 × Grain Price)
